There
are about 12 million blind people in India. At the
Vivekananda Mission Asram, our vision and prime activities
are to provide an opportunity to the blind to lead
a comfortable life with proper
education and health support. We also work to ensure their rehabilitation. We understand that in order to overcome their hurdles,
and be able to lead a normal life, it is essential
that the blind receive overall
support and assistance. And at the Asram, we do everything we can to serve
them.
The Asram believes that proper education is the foundation
of a meaningful, rewarding life. Quality education
alone can dispel darkness of despair in the lives of
the underprivileged and turn them into self-respecting,
self-sustaining citizens. Keeping in mind this belief,
the Asram set up schools for both those who are visually
impaired and those who are sighted.
To provide rehabilitation, the Asram has set up a number
of training centres. These work to ensure that Swami
Vivekananda’s dream of providing self-employment
to all, be fulfilled.
The Asram has also set up an eye hospital, and provides
general medical treatment through homeopathic and allopathic
charitable dispensaries.
